Leapers Pioneers 2200V SiC Technology for Next-Generation Power Electronics

Accelerating global energy transition is driving increased demand for efficient, high-power-density power electronic devices in medium-low voltage applications like PV energy storage, Solid-State Transformers (SST), ultra-fast charging, and marine electrification. Silicon Carbide (SiC) devices, with their superior material properties, are demonstrating revolutionary advantages in these fields.

Building on our expertise in 1200V and 1700V SiC module R&D and applications, Leapers is pioneering the development and deployment of 2000V and higher-voltage SiC products targeting these sectors.

Leapers has now launched the ED3 all-SiC module based on 2200V-SiC devices. Utilizing epoxy resin encapsulation and Active Metal Brazed (AMB) substrates, it is ideally suited for 1500V PV-storage systems. By replacing traditional IGBT three-level designs with a simplified two-level topology, it achieves significant circuit simplification and efficiency gains.

This product is already deployed in 200kW string PV-storage inverters. Furthermore, its high bus voltage capability makes it exceptionally well-suited for high-voltage ultra-fast charging and specialized inverter applications.

Looking towards future applications in Solid-State Transformers (SST), HVDC transmission, wind power, and electric vessels, Leapers is developing the high-voltage LPP platform and planning the Gen2-E series of 2000V-SiC products. The next-generation platform features low stray inductance, high power density, and enhanced reliability. The LPP platform is ideal for grid-connected and high-current applications, while the Gen2-E-2000V series excels in SST and high-end power supply scenarios.
